Dmitri returns to Vienna for Eugene Onegin
Published Wednesday, May 26, 2010
Following his run of performances as Germont in La traviata at Covent Garden, Dmitri will return to the Vienna State Opera as the title role in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, a role that the New York Times proclaimed Dmitri was "born to play". After his 2007 performances at the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Times wrote, "with his white mane, commanding physique and earthy voice, Mr. Hvorostovsky projects charisma naturally, making him perfect for this diffident character." The production, which opens on May 29 and runs through June 13, features Olga Guryakova as Taitiana and Pavol Breslik as Lenski. The cast is led by conductor Kirill Petrenko.
